Disney’s ‘Descendants’ Teaser Trailer Released [Video]

The first teaser trailer for Disney’s Descendants has been released, and it’s getting some attention. For parents who grew up watching Disney favorites such as Beauty and the Beast and Snow White, Disney is bringing the children of these and others to life in the new movie that will air on the Disney Channel.

Here’s the trailer.

The movie will be about the kids of some of Disney’s best-loved heroes and villains. The son of Belle and the Beast will star, and offer a chance at redemption to Cruella de Ville’s son, Carlos; Maleficient’s daughter, Mal; the evil queen’s daughter, Evvie; and Jafar’s son, Jay.

The cast includes Kristen Chenowith, Kathy Najimy, Booboo Stewart, Dove Cameron, and Keegan Connor Tracy.

The teaser gives a hint at the parents, with their silhouettes on a curtain as it closes, and shows a glimpse of one character from the back, but it’s brief and short on any hard information on what to expect. It does look like Descendants viewers can expect Disney’s unique take on fashion, with flashy clothing styles that appear to be a spin-off of Disney classics.

The Disney blog offers a little more, though. The movie takes place in Auradon, where Disney heroes and their children live. There’s also the Isle of the Lost — Disney’s classic villains are all banished to this remote location, and by extension, this is where their kids live too.

In preparation for taking the throne, King Beast and Queen Belle’s son offers up a proclamation: The descendants of the Disney villains can join the descendants of the heroes at school in Auradon, giving them a chance to become productive and happy fairy-tale citizens. Naturally, the greatest villains in Disney history aren’t going to miss this chance to try to wreak havoc on the heroes who’ve heretofore escaped their grasp.

D23 introduced the cast of the movie this summer. Dove Cameron, who has starred in other Disney productions, will be the daughter of Maleficient (Kristen Chenowith), and Booboo Stewart, best known for his role as Seth Clearwater in the Twilight movies, will play Jafar’s son, Jay. Cameron Boyce, another face well-known to Disney fans from his role in the hit series Jessie, turns up as Carlos, the son of Cruella de Ville. Cruella is played by Wendy Raquel Robinson.

There’s not yet an official release date for Disney’s Descendants, but it will be aired on the Disney Channel sometime in 2015.
