WWE News: ‘The Vigilante’ Sting Set To Return At WWE Royal Rumble

While not confirmed as of yet, there is word that we might be seeing the wrestling icon Sting again by the Royal Rumble. Rumors have been swirling that WWE wants to bring back The Authority to TV quicker to help ratings. The issue that some are not seeing is that WWE RAW‘s ratings are low around this time every year. The rush would be bad considering WWE needs to sell The Authority’s loss at WWE Survivor Series.

The Authority should be back by January to help set up something for WrestleMania 31. The considered match would be Triple H vs. Sting currently. This, of course, depends on if The Undertaker can be healthy enough to return. Most would consider it idiotic to have both Sting and Undertaker on the ‘Mania event and not have them facing each other. Considering this is a fantasy match many have wanted for over a decade. Sting even requested it personally.

Sting is now under a performance contract and was said to have signed a six date deal with WWE. Those dates might extend due to the need for ratings to go up in the ‘Mania build up. WWE RAW after Survivor Series had a relatively high rating just because of the prospect that Sting might be present. That being said, Sting does draw. This is something WWE has analytics for now.

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, despite the clear fan hate they possess, also draw ratings. This is why they are potentially coming back sooner. Add in that Sting would also help draw eyeballs to WWE in a big time.

There is supposedly a set-up of sorts set to occur at the Royal Rumble which would, in turn, bring back The Authority. Due to The Authority being back, Sting would be present. This is where Sting makes sense. Currently, the only man who can bring back The Authority is John Cena. It doesn’t make sense for Cena to allow this to occur.

Sting Triple H SS

There is a slight loop hole, in that The Authority could appear as “talent.” However, regardless of what loophole WWE finds, we are going to get back the group within the next month or so.

There was a rumor that Sting could face Triple H at the Rumble and then Trips could go into a program with someone else by WrestleMania if WWE wanted Sting to face Undertaker. However, so far it appears that Sting/Triple H will be a ‘Mania match. WWE even put out a “fantasy match” video on WWE.com teasing it recently.

Sting wrestling in WWE, regardless of who his opponent is, would be a dream come true for many fans. What angers some is that WWE does not have nearly enough dates to have him present leading up to “The Grandest Stage of Them All.” There is a thought those could be extended or videos could play to save Sting the dates, similar to what WWE has done with Brock Lesnar in the past.

We will have to see what WWE plans, but what we do know that Sting’s next appearance will have to do with The Authority. WWE’s face-painted “Vigilante” will want to stop anything The Authority tries. If The Authority is at the Rumble, he will be too.
