Brooklyn: Two NYPD Cops Shot ‘Execution-Style’ In Broad Daylight

Two NYPD police officers were shot, execution-style, in broad daylight by a gunman who walked up to their patrol car and shot both of them, point-blank, the New York Post is reporting.

A variety of different reports are giving varied accounts, some conflicting, of how the events played out.

WPIX (New York) reports that the two police officers were having lunch in their patrol car when the suspect walked up to them and ambushed them. According to the New York Post, the two NYPD officers were working overtime on an anti-terrorism drill.

The shooting took place in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant, at the corner of Myrtle and Tompkins avenues.

Witness Derrick McKie didn’t see the shooting, but he reported to the Post what he heard.

“I heard shooting, — four or five shots. It sounded like from a single gun.”

The suspect then fled on foot to a nearby subway station, where he was fatally shot. Some reports indicate that he was shot by police, while others suggest the fatal gunshot wound was self-inflicted. Carmen Jimenez, who was in the subway station at the time, described what she saw.

“Everything happened so quick. We were standing waiting for the G train. We heard arguing from the other end of the platform. It looked like two cops came in there was lots of yelling and they said, ‘Everybody get down.’ We tried to get out of there, and there was a lot of shouting, people were screaming, people were trying to run. I threw myself on the floor. I was afraid for my life and afraid for my baby.”

As of this post, the gunman has not been identified, although CBS New York reports that an unidentified source has claimed he is a “28-year-old from Baltimore.” There have been no reports about his motive.

This is the second time in a matter of months that NYPD police officers have been attacked by lone attackers in acts of random violence. In October, according to this Inquisitr report, a lone gunman, allegedly sympathetic to ISIS, randomly attacked two NYPD cops with a hatchet. Both cops have since recovered.

Update:

The New York Post is now reporting that the alleged gunman is a 28-year-old fugitive from Baltimore who had allegedly shot his girlfriend Saturday morning.

In a chilling post on Instagram, the alleged gunman posted a picture of a handgun – one that reportedly matched the gun used to kill the NYPD officers – with the caption “I’m Putting Wings on Pigs Today.” He also made a statement that appears to reference the recent death of Eric Garner.
