Princess Madeleine Pregnant With Second Child As Daughter Leonore Turns 10-Months-Old
Princess Madeleine is pregnant with her second baby, just ahead of her first child, Leonore, turning 10-months-old. The announcement that Sweden’s royal and American banker Christopher O’Neill are expecting comes as a surprise to many, and the news is certainly being shared quite early. The new baby is due in the summer of 2015.
The baby news came via Princess Madeleine’s Facebook page. Madeleine, 32, and Chris, 40, welcomed their first child, Leonore, in February. The Facebook post noted that the princess is “so happy to share the wonderful news” that the couple is expecting again.
According to the Daily Mail, the announcement is being made now to avoid speculation. Princess Madeleine’s pregnancy announcement comes just ahead of a scheduled appearance on Saturday. The couple will be attending a holiday gathering at Stockholm’s Swedish Academy along with many other royal family members.
The couple’s first baby, full name H.R.H. Princess Leonore Lilian Maria of Sweden, Duchess of Gotland, was born February 20 at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. As Hello has noted, the couple lives in New York, and Madeleine works for World Childhood Foundation, a nonprofit started by her mother, Queen Silvia.
Madeleine and Chris met through mutual friends, the Swedish Royal Court site notes. They started out with a great friendship, she says, and he reveals that he immediately knew there was something special between them. Madeleine had previously been engaged to lawyer Jonas Berstrom, details the Daily Mail, and they split after reports emerged that he had cheated on her.
The princess jetted to New York looking for a fresh start, after the demise of her eight-year relationship with Berstrom, and she soon met O’Neill. Their romance started to make headlines in early 2011, and Madeleine and Chris got engaged in October 2012. They got married in an elaborate ceremony in Sweden in June 2013, and they announced their first pregnancy in September 2013.
Princess Madleine’s pregnancy confirmation comes at a time where there has been plenty of royal baby news for fans to embrace. Of course, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, is in the midst of her second pregnancy. Princess Charlene of Monaco recently welcomed twins Gabriella and Jacques with her husband, Prince Albert II, and she’s noted she is completely in love.
