‘GTA V’ Festive Update Arrives With Ugly Christmas Sweaters, Homing Rockets


The rumored Grand Theft Auto V holiday-themed update arrived Thursday to PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The 1.19 Festive Surprise Update was rolled out to consoles with tidings of new vehicles, masks, weapons, activities, and other snow-filled goodies.

The Festive Surprise Update weighs in at approximately 1.2 GB and comes with a new Homing Missile Launcher and Proximity Mines to make the holidays explosive, though they will be around permanently after this event is over. These are available in story mode too, though they will have to be purchased from Ammu-Nation on the PS4 and Xbox One. They will be placed directly into the character’s inventory for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

Likewise, there are also some brand new vehicles to tool around Los Santos in. They can be checked out in Story mode from the Special Vehicle List for the PS3 and Xbox 360, or purchased from San Andreas Super Autos for the PS4 and Xbox One.

GTA V Legion Square Christmas Tree (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360)

There are also limited-time holiday content and activities. A Rockstar Support post revealed that snowball fights, Christmas Trees, ugly sweaters, and more will be available through the new year.

  • Christmas Tree added to Legion Square.
  • Christmas Trees added to all Apartments.
  • Please note that the weather option will be removed from Job lobbies during Snowy Weather.
  • Snowballs added whilst Snowy weather is active. These can be gathered and stored by pressing D-pad Left when a player is unarmed. Nine Snowballs can be stored at a time and will melt and disappear when swapping sessions or starting Jobs.
  • The Firework Launcher has been added back to Ammu-Nation for the festive season. This item will be available to purchase from 24th December until the 5th Fireworks will now be more festive than previous fireworks.
  • 90+ new Festive Surprise themed items of clothing have been added for male and female characters to all clothes stores. All of last year’s Holiday Gifts clothing will also be available during the Festive Surprise. All time-limited clothing added for the Festive Surprise period is free to purchase.
  • Five new Festive Surprise themed masks have been added to Vespucci Movie Masks for male and female characters:
  • Elf (3 variants)
  • Gingerbread Man
  • Penguin

Additionally, players who log in on December 24, 31 or on January 1 will receive a Firework launcher with five rounds. There will also be a Christmas Day gift given for players who log in on December 25.

GTA V also now allows players to own a third piece of property in the game. This allows players to own up to 30 cars and 9 bicycles.

Meanwhile, an issue with the PS4 and Xbox One controls featuring a large deadzone has been addressed. Rockstar has added Deadzone and Acceleration sliders in the GTA V settings so that players can get the kind of responsiveness they want out of the controls.
