‘GTA V’ Developer Says Series Will Stay Primarily Third Person, Use Of First-Person Camera Not Guaranteed

Since the next-gen launch of Grand Theft Auto V brought the popular open-world crime series to the Xbox One and Playstation 4 last month, Rockstar Games says that they have received a wide sampling of questions from fans regarding the future of GTA V and the franchise as a whole. Hoping to provide some answers, the developer published a series of responses to the Rockstar Newswire for some of the more commonly asked inquiries.

In addition to featuring remastered HD visuals, one of the biggest changes added to the next generation versions of GTA V was a new first-person camera mode that allows fans to witness Los Santos directly through the eyes of their currently controlled character. However, Rockstar Games confirmed that the appearance of a first-person mode in GTA V doesn’t mean that gamers should expect the developer to ever use a similar camera option in the future.

“We are excited by the response to our first effort at a first person experience, but remain committed to third person games and may or may not use first person as a camera option in the future.”

So all Rockstar Games titles will still continue to be designed with a third person camera in mind. Fans can rest assured that the use of third person action will be guaranteed in future installments of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The developer says that they always want to provide users with choice so that they can play how they want like they have with the next-gen version of GTA V. Ideally, Rockstar would prefer to have both camera options in their games but there is no promise that a first-person mode like the one found in GTA V will exist in future installments of the series.

Many fans have also asked why only the Xbox One and PS4 editions of GTA V received the ability to play with a first-person camera. The developer explained in a recent IGN Interview that technical limitations of last-gen hardware simply prevented the feature from coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of GTA V. The older consoles didn’t have the memory to add the high number of new animations that the team had to create to make GTA V‘s newest camera mode function properly.

The Inquisitr reported earlier this week that Rockstar Games has also confirmed that the anticipated online heists of GTA V will finally be added to the title’s separate multiplayer mode in early 2015. The developer detailed the co-op robberies as four-player missions that will require GTA V users to work together to pull them off.

Grand Theft Auto V is out now on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, and PS3. The game is also scheduled to release on PC at the beginning of next year.
