This Apple Holiday Ad Will Make You Cry, Get Those Tissues Out [Video]

Apple has a new holiday ad that is sure to make you cry, guaranteed, so get those tissues ready as you prepare to watch this very heartwarming video.

If you are like most people, you are already stressed out about the holidays — for the wrong reason we may add — but Apple is making us pause and think about what this time of the year really represents. Family is what most focus on, as the year comes to an end, whatever your religion or beliefs, most look forward to getting together with loved ones.

Of course the Apple holiday ad is intended to get consumers to dish out their money on their products, but it is done very subtly and effectively. The 90-second video starts when a young girl finds an old vinyl or record — the ones people used to play on turntables.

The tearjerker is about three times the length of a regular TV commercial and tells the story of a girl who is looking through a collection of old vinyls and begins listening to one of her grandmother’s records. It is clear from the state of the piece that it was handled multiple times, and has a dedication from “Valerie” that reads, “To Raymond, with love” and is dated December 1952.

The Apple ad continues as the girl plays the vinyl, which has a loving dedication from her grandmother to her husband in which she expresses regret that they are not together for the holidays and proceeds to sing a rendition of — “Love Is Here To Stay.”

As in a previous ad from Apple — which shows a young teen who everyone believes is completely oblivious to his surroundings and presumably ignores his family, but ends up recording all the moments and sharing a video — this girl shows she has a big heart and loves her grandma so much that she makes a digital copy for her.

The ad brilliantly sets the stage as the teen moves along with the holidays and is seen listening to the song. She uses her MacBook while her mother and grandmother are seen sleeping peacefully on the couch. She sits with her guitar in front of her computer, humming the old-time melody.

On Christmas morning, the Apple holiday ad shows the older woman coming down to the kitchen to find a note saying “A duet, push play” along with an iPad, and when the music starts she is surprised to listen to the first few notes. The grandmother starts to tear up — along with the rest of us — as she looks at old photos of her youth. Watch the great video!
