13 Pro-Gay Bakeries Deny ‘Gay Marriage Is Wrong’ Cake: But Is Request Too Inflammatory?

Thirteen pro-gay bakeries have denied a Christian man’s request to bake a cake supporting traditional marriage.

The report comes from pro-Christian site Shoebat, run by self-professed Christian Theodore Shoebat, and was documented via YouTube videos.

Stemming from a case in which, Shoebat says, a Christian bakery was sued for refusing to place “Support Gay Marriage” on a cake, the blogger tried an experiment of his own.

Shoebat “called some 13 prominent bakers who are pro-gay and requested that they make a pro-traditional marriage cake with the words ‘Gay marriage is wrong’ placed on the cake.”

“Each one denied us service, and even used deviant insults and obscenities against us. One baker even said that she would make me a cookie with a large phallus on it. We recorded all of this in a video that will stun the American people as to how militant and intolerant the homosexual agenda is.”

From there, Shoebat played the two videos, which you can check out below. (Warning for those of you skipping ahead: The language does get quite colorful.)

While many are supporting Shoebat’s experiment on YouTube, some have called him out for being intentionally antagonistic. One such exchange involved a self-identified lesbian woman, who felt that what Shoebat was asking went beyond celebrating a belief. When she refused to make the “Gay marriage is wrong” cake, Shoebat noted that it meant the woman “wasn’t for equality then.”

“We are, but why would we support something that is against what we’re working towards?” she responded. “So why would Christian bakeries be making cakes for homosexual marriages, yet you guys use the state to force them to do that?”

At this point, the bakery worker suggested he call back and speak to the owner, but felt like the “Gay marriage is wrong” cake would be “hateful.”

From there, the requests — and the responses — get a bit more contentious.

One respondent called out Shoebat and Christians for being hypocritical, saying that they were “all for love,” but then they would deny gay people the right to marry the person they love.

“If we were all about sex, we wouldn’t want to get married,” the woman said. The woman also noted that “if you wanted us to make a cake for a man and a woman, then we would do that, we don’t have a problem with that.”

It was the act of making a cake that directly attacked her core belief — the statement “Gay marriage is wrong” — with which the woman had a problem.

In the Christian bakery cases, the woman points out, many are refusing to make cakes for gay couples, period, and “that is wrong,” she said.
