Eric Andre Freaks Out Wiz Khalifa On Adult Swim Talk Show

Eric Andre’s brand of comedy often leaves the purest of absurdists scratching their heads trying to figure him out. The problem is, it can’t be done.

Andre’s wild, frenetic, live-and-act-in-the-moment style does not allow for one to catch their bearings for very long as long as he is “on.” That’s why the only place where a late night talk show vehicle hosted by the wild man could not only exist, but also thrive, is on Adult Swim.

The Eric Andre Show is in its third season on Adult Swim, the network that brought us the beautifully bizarre Too Many Cooks viral satire a few short months ago. The show features Andre finding new and creative ways to destroy his entire set, asking questions that are of little sense or import to the few actual celebrity guests he manages to book who aren’t comically poor impersonators, and often ends up with said guests slack jawed and bewildered at the chaos that has tornadoed around them in such a short amount of time.

Andre’s latest victim was rapper Wiz Khalifa. In an appearance which Vibe’s Iyana Robertson described Khalifa as at times being left “all-out bewildered,” the rapper was left stunned, at times to the point of putting his hands over his face to hide from the bedlam. Meanwhile, Andre made inane puns using his name, hammer fisted his own desk into oblivion, a poor George Clooney impersonator appeared and rolled around on the floor, and a naked PA is paraded onto the set for the expressed purpose of getting sucker punched in the gut.

Khalifa, a proud and avid marijuana smoker, began the interview calm and relaxed while puffing away on camera as Andre pitched ideas where Andre might join Khalifa on stage during the rapper’s festival appearances. One such proposition was for Khalifa to serve as Andre’s hype man while Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody provides DVD commentary. Each idea was ceremoniously shot down by Khalifa, before Andre sent the insanity into overdrive and showed Wiz that his environment is either the absolute wrong place one would want to be high or the perfect place to push someone toward self-medication.

MTV News called the interview one of the “oddest, most uncomfortable interviews ever,” but regular viewers of The Eric Andre Show know it’s just par for the course.

The genius of The Eric Andre Show is that it appears none of the actual guests come aware of what they are in store for. Former Laguna Beach star-turned-author Lauren Conrad ran off set in disgust earlier this season after Andre threw up on his desk and then began eating his own throw up, and in an earlier season, 80s action movie icon Dolph Lundgren looked poised to crush Andre when he came under the impression that Andre was making fun of him.

The mad, beyond absurd genius of Eric Andre, tempered with the smooth, go-with-the-flow vibe of his sidekick, comic Hannibal Buress, provide for just the delightful sort of train wreck you just can’t peel your eyes away from. Nor would you want to.

The Eric Andre Show airs on Adult Swim weeknights. All episodes can be streamed at Adult Swim.com.
