Congressman Fires Staffers Who Attack Him On Twitter

A word to the wise for tweeters, if you are going to use an online social network to bash your boss it’s probably best that it isn’t a public feed like Twitter. Washington state Rep. Rick Larsen fired three of his staffers this week after they used the social media network to attack their boss and talk about partying at work.

The tweets, discovered by the NW Daily Marker showed a history of negative messages against the representative and his campaign dating back to August.

In the tweets staffers for Larsen talked about drinking Jack Daniels on the job and listening to grunge rock band Nirvana on YouTube while “at my government job.”

Among some of the worst tweets were:

“My coworker just took a shot of Jack crouching behind my desk. We have unabashedly given up on just about all things work related.”

While another staffer referred to Larsen as a “p***y.”

It didn’t take congressman Larsen very long to deal with the issue, just one hour after hearing about the tweets all three staffers were fired.

In a statement about the incident Larsen’s office said:

“Neither Congressman Larsen nor his other staff were aware of the actions by these three staff members before today,” and Larsen was “disappointed by their actions and takes this very seriously.”

Perhaps those three staffers should have realized that because their boss is in the public spotlight so were they, I have a feeling it’s going to be a long-time before any of them find political support jobs again. Hey at least they have their friend Jack to keep them warm on those cold nights.

Are you surprised that Larsen’s staffers were so publicly open about their hatred towards the job they were being paid to do?
