Addictions come in all shapes and forms and some are rather more unpleasant than others, but a British mum-of-five has revealed that she is helplessly addicted to something which is downright bizarre and will undoubtedly turn a few heads as well as stomachs.
Jade Sylvester is like any other 25-year-old woman. She likes clothes, music, socialising, good food, and as a proud mum she also loves spending time with her children. There’s just one more thing you should know about Jade. The lady from Lincolnshire also enjoys eating an entire roll of toilet paper each and every day!
That’s right folks! Jade Sylvester is hopelessly addicted to hungrily gobbling the stuff which most of us flush down the toilet without a second glance. Crazy huh? Hang on to your seats, this s*it gets crazier!
Jade first started snacking on the lavatorial “candy” when she was pregnant with her youngest son. Like a bolt out of the blue, or should that be loo? Jade was crippled by a constant craving for toilet paper.
“Two months into the pregnancy, I started craving toilet roll. I still don’t know why. I like the feeling of the texture in my mouth, rather than the taste. I like the dryness. My family tell me it isn’t very good for me – but I can’t help it.”
The Mirror reports that over a year after giving birth, Jade still cannot tear herself away from the paper snack whenever nature calls.
Jade is now deep in the thralls of her terrible addiction and confesses that she chews and swallows an entire roll of toilet paper a day. And that’s a lot of tissue by anyone’s standards.
The toilet paper eating mum reveals that she bides her time until she needs the lavatory and while there will help herself to a few sheets of toilet tissue away from prying and judgmental eyes.
The late great Lou Reed once said, “Give me an issue, and I’ll give you a tissue. You can wipe my a*s on it.” But even at his most depraved, degenerate, and drug crazed, would uncle Lou ever have contemplated tearing into a roll of toilet paper like a wild animal?
Probably not, but then Lou never experienced the hormonal turmoil and complete irrationality which comes with being pregnant. As Jade explains.
“While I was pregnant I went to the loo and looked at the toilet roll and thought ‘I have to eat that’ – I know it sounds silly. Today I try and hold off going to the bathroom because I know if I go I will eat the paper. I usually eat around eight pieces per visit – sometimes I go to the bathroom just to get some toilet roll. It does fill me up quite a bit. At first I used to eat a couple of squares at a time, but I keep eating more and more.”
Strangely, Jade prefers value supermarket brands to the more expensive tissue manufactured by brands such as Andrex.
“Different brands taste different. I have one roll in the bathroom for eating and one to be used normally.”
Yet any addiction, no matter how bizarre, is no laughing matter, and Jade has repeatedly attempted to kick her habit.
“I thought the cravings would stop after I gave birth but they haven’t. I can’t quit. I keep coming back for more. It can’t be doing my insides any good, but it hasn’t caused me any health problems or any illness.
“I try to hide it from my kids, if they spot me eating toilet roll they tell me off. If my daughter sees me she says, ‘spit it out Mummy, spit it down the toilet’.”
