An Arizona news anchor confronted Pastor Steven Anderson over his horrific views on the LGBT community. Anderson, who spreads his beliefs by yelling during his sermons, was called a “hatemonger” by KPNX anchor Mark Curtis.
KPNX decided to accompany the interview with Pastor Anderson by showing footage of one of his sermons. During a sermon Anderson says, “all homos are pedophiles.” The most frightening thing about the sermon is the response from the church goers who seem just as enthused as he is as they reply “amen.” Some even laugh gleefully. Anderson continues, “If you executed the homos like God recommends, you wouldn’t have AIDs running rampant.”
Curtis didn’t take these ignorant comments lightly and decided to have pastor Steven Anderson of the Faithful Word Baptist Church on his show to discuss his views.
Of his antigay sermon, Curtis said, “When I heard your sermon, it sounded like the rantings of someone who was either a hatemonger or a religious zealot, and I’m wondering, which are you?”
Pastor Steven Anderson admits that he’s a religious zealot and brings up the verse in Leviticus 20:13 to defend himself. He interprets the verse to mean gay sex is an abomination, and those who engage in this act should be “put to death.” At one point, he asserts, “According to the Bible, homosexuality is a capital crime.” He also believes that gays should be eradicated in time for the holiday season.
Curtis questions this belief by raising the commandment, “Thou shall not kill.” Curtis says, “What you have to understand that the bible commands that certain people be put to death. It’s not my job, or the job of any christian to go out and kill anybody.” The Pastor infers that it’s the government’s job to kill the LGBT community.
The anchor brought up the issue of having a child who was gay, and if the Pastor would then want them dead over their sexuality. The Pastor immediately shrugs that off. “That’s like saying, what if your daughter, you know, grew up to be an ax murderer? What if your son grew up to be like Adolf Hitler?”
