Another Possible Hate Crime Attack On A Bosnian Immigrant In St. Louis

Another Bosnian immigrant in St. Louis has been attacked by black youths and the St. Louis police are asking for the FBI’s help in investigating the attack as a hate crime, Fox News is reporting.

An unnamed 26-year-old Bosnian-American woman claims she was attacked by a group of black teens in the Bevo Mill neighborhood in St. Louis, a neighborhood populated largely by Bosnian immigrants. She is the second Bosnian to be attacked in racially-motivated violence in St. Louis in ten days.

Last week, in the aftermath of the grand jury decision not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Mike Brown, Bosnian immigrant Zemir Begic was attacked and killed by a group of hammer-wielding black teens, according to this Inquisitr report.

As of this post, the attack on Zemir Begic has not been officially deemed a “hate crime,” according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. However, the case of the Bosnian woman attacked on Monday does seem to bear the hallmarks of a hate crime.

According to the woman’s police report, via Fox News, a group of three black teens surrounded her car, not far from where Zemir Begic was murdered.

One of the youths flashed a gun and ordered the Bosnian woman out of her car. Another one hit the windshield with a heavy object.

“You’re Bosnian. I should just kill you now.”

The woman was pulled from her car and beaten unconscious, found later by a passer-by who notified the police.

Such attacks are becoming commonplace in the Bevo Mill section of St. Louis, which is home to a thriving community of Bosnians who fled their war-torn country two decades ago. A Bosnian immigrant who asked to remain anonymous told Fox News that his neighborhood is plagued by roving gangs of black youths who surround cars and intimidate occupants for sport. And it’s been getting worse since the Mike Brown shooting in August.

“It is common for African-American teens to walk in the middle of the street and block in cars at intersections. We have been stopped at intersections in Bevo and our car attacked by teens who pound on the car — laughing at us. They only do this to white individuals, who they have learned will generally not respond. There is a pattern here and it is racially motivated. Many of us are arming ourselves in order to avoid becoming the next victim to be beaten to death in the streets.”

As of this post, no arrests have been made in the case of the female Bosnian immigrant attacked in St. Louis.
