John Legend, Chrissy Teigen Donate Food Trucks To Fuel Eric Garner Protesters

Husband and wife singer and model team John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have been far from silent during the deluge following the back-to-back decisions to not indict police officers who killed Eric Garner in New York City and Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

Both John and Chrissy have been open on social media about their disappointment in the decision, but the two have now stepped up their commitment to the cause by donating food trucks to feed hungry protesters in New York City’s Union Square, so that they may continue their demonstration against what they see as failed justice for Eric Garner, reported Vanity Fair.

Legend has also gone through artistic means in order to speak out against what he sees as social injustice in the Ferguson and Eric Garner rulings. His new song with rapper Common for the soundtrack of the Martin Luther King Jr. documentary Selma features the following lyrics.

“That’s why Rosa sat on the bus/That’s why we walk through Ferguson with our hands up.”

Of course, not all of the reaction to Teigen and John’s donation has been positive. That’s nothing new for Chrissy, however, who was embroiled in controversy on the social media website in October for posting a tweet that many said made light of the shooting at Canadian Parliament happening at the time.

Even though Legend has been extremely outspoken about the recent events sparking protest in the United States, Teigen has been much more reserved in light of actions that show her commitment to the cause, such as the donation of the food trucks. Chrissy confirmed via Twitter that this withdrawn response is partially due to the way she has been treated for speaking out on controversial issues in the past.
