SNL ‘Star Wars’ Trailer Confirms Fans’ Greatest Fears [Video]

The SNL Star Wars trailer dropped on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, and if the full movie is anything like this, you’re probably going to wish Luke, Leia, Chewie, and Han stayed far away from the roles they made famous.

Of course, much has been made over the series’ original cast returning, most of it almost uncontainable excitement, but what if your worst fears as a Star Wars fan were confirmed, and the aged versions just weren’t as cool as the gang you remembered?

The folks at SNL took that concept and ran with it, stuffing as many age jokes into two-and-a-half minutes as they could possibly muster, and if you have a sense of humor about things, then it should be a fun, if not slow and disorienting, ride.

Those of you who look upon the George Lucas creation with a bit more reverence may not like it too much, but if you guys could sit through those three prequels and still want more, then a couple of minutes isn’t going to kill you.

Here’s the trailer in full.

As far as the best bits in the SNL Star Wars trailer are concerned, I personally dug the Chewbacca revamp as well as Luke’s lightsaber walker, though that one didn’t seem as well-received by the viewing audience.

Then there’s the handicapped sign on the Millennium Falcon and a version of Princess Leia that will never allow you to picture young Leia in a gold bikini again. (Thanks for ruining my childhood, Lorne Michaels.)

Thankfully, the real Star Wars trailer is also out there, which you already knew unless you’ve been living under a rock since the Friday after Thanksgiving.

To call the sneak peek at Episode VII: The Force Awakens a viral success is an exercise in understatement. In a little more than a week, it has been viewed on YouTube alone a total of 45 million times.

The Inquisitr previously reported that it had also racked up a total of 16 million interactions on Facebook — and we’ve still got a year before the movie hits theaters.

In the meantime, it looks like we’ll have to be content with parodies and homages and social media discussion as well as the occasional official teaser.

As parody, the SNL Star Wars version above is pretty successful, but does it make you nervous for how Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill will come across in the new film? Sound off in our comments section.
