$7,500 Slice Of Fruitcake From Wedding of Kate Middleton And Prince William Sells At Auction

A $7,500 slice of fruitcake was sold at auction on Friday. This wasn’t any ordinary piece of cake. The sweet treat was given to guests at the royal wedding of Will and Kate. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Kate Middleton were wed on April 29, 2011.

According to CNN, the $7,500 slice of fruitcake wasn’t the first piece of pastry from a royal wedding sold at auction. When a serving of wedding cake from the nuptial celebration of Prince Charles and Princess Diana came up at auction several years ago, it sold for $6,000. The couple actually had 27 wedding cakes, including the official wedding cake baked by David Avery, the head baker at the Royal Naval cooking school in Chatham, Kent. Avery made two identical cakes for the celebration, just in case one was damaged. Prince Charles and Princess Diana wed on July 29, 1981; they divorced in 1996.

The $7,500 slice of fruitcake was sold by Julien’s Auctions. It was part of their Hollywood Legends 2014 Auction. The costly piece of cake was in interesting company. Also included in the auction were Bruce Lee’s wrestling headgear, handstrengthener, wooden octagon nunchakus and training jump rope; Farrah Fawcett’s wooden shoe molds; a scream mask and cape from the movie Scream; David Hasselhoff’s Knight Rider jacket and golf cart, and Harry Houdini’s Bean Cobb brand handcuffs.

Julien’s Auctions described the $7,500 slice of fruitcake in their catalog; it was lot number 256.

“Prince William and Kate Middleton Wedding Cake: A piece of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding cake made by Fiona Cairns, in a red presentation box. The brandy infused fruit-cake was given to members of the Submariners, to whom William is Commodore-in-Chief. The box is trimmed in silver ink and printed with a ‘CW’ under a crown: the first initials of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.”

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a hat belonging to Napoleon Bonaparte hit the auction block earlier this year. Napoleon’s hat sold at auction for a small fortune. The iconic two-corner hat sold for a whopping $2.4 million. It was valued at $500,000. The winning bidder was from South Korea. The unnamed buyer purchased Napoleon’s hat at an auction near Paris, France. Jean-Pierre Osenat of the Osenat auction house in Fontainebleau said the hat was part of a group of Napoleon-era items from the personal collection of the Prince of Monaco that also included several pairs of the emperor’s socks, strands of Napoleon’s hair, medallions, coins, keys, paintings, sculptures, and some small medals.
