UFC To Announce CM Punk Signing After Tonight’s UFC 181?

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that the UFC is planning to make an announcement after tonight’s UFC 181 has concluded, and WWE fans are already speculating (and hoping) that the UFC will announce the signing of former WWE wrestler CM Punk.

It was reported earlier today by The Inquisitr that UFC president Dana White was planning on meeting with CM Punk prior to tonight’s UFC 181, and it’s likely that now the event is underway, that Punk and White have already met and could have gotten a deal done.

Yesterday afternoon, Dana White was stopped in the street by a TMZ reporter, and asked about his interest in bringing CM Punk to the UFC. White responded by saying that he likes Punk, and knows that Punk is a huge MMA fan, and wouldn’t mind talking to Punk about coming into the UFC.

F4WOnline’s Bryan Alvarez commented on CM Punk possibly signing with the UFC, and said that it would make more sense for Punk to do a match with Metamoris, because that would be an easier transition for him.

For those who don’t know, Metamoris is a company that puts on jiu-jitsu matches. Notable UFC stars such as Josh Barnett, Rory MacDonald and Chael Sonnen have all competed under the Metamoris banner, and Punk, who has been training jiu-jitsu with Rener Gracie for the past couple of years, may be interested in doing a Metamoris match.

There’s also speculation that the post-UFC 181 announcement could be that Brock Lesnar is coming to the UFC after his contract with WWE ends after WrestleMania 31. The speculation is largely due to the fact that Lesnar was just added to the UFC video game, however, due to the fact that Lesnar is still under contract with WWE, UFC probably wouldn’t announce a deal with Lesnar until Lesnar’s WWE contract has expired.

Many people would think that it would be hard for CM Punk to top the headlines that he’s made over the past two weeks, but if the UFC’s announcement is that CM Punk has signed with the company, then that would be even bigger news than Punk’s comments about WWE.

Punk has shown interest in fighting in the past, and now that he’s been out of WWE for nearly a year, he’s had plenty of time to rest up and heal. So this could be the perfect time for Punk to join the UFC.

If Punk signs with the UFC, it’ll be interesting to see who the UFC matches him up against, and what weight class Punk will fight at. But there’s no doubt that Punk will be a huge draw, at least for one fight.
