Free PlayStation Games Available Now From EA For Console’s 20th Anniversary

EA Access may not be available for the PlayStation 4, but there are free games available now for the three PlayStation current consoles. Electronic Arts made the announcement during the PlayStation Experience keynote on Saturday to celebrate the console’s 20th anniversary.

Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore made an on-stage appearance to make the announcement. The three games will be available to download for free while the PlayStation Experience is on-going. That means you have until Sunday evening at approximately 10 p.m. ET.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (PS Vita)

Need for Speed: Most Wanted was announced as the first free title and is available now for PS Vita owners from the PlayStation Store. This open world racer throws cops into the mix and drew a 79 Metacritic score. The graphics aren’t as good as the PS3 version, but it holds the same amount of content.

Mirror's Edge (PS3)

PlayStation 3 owners can download Mirror’s Edge as their free game from the PlayStation Store. This is the title that helped to make free-running a common mechanic in games. It’s set in a dystopian future where Faith is a courier on the run, literally. The game brought in a 79 Metacritic score primarily due to its short length.

Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (PS4)

Finally, PlayStation 4 owners can grab Plants vs. Zombies; Garden Warfare from the PlayStation Store. This game takes the setup of the mobile game and turns it into a third-person multiplayer shooter. PopCap Games has added more maps and multiplayer modes to the game for free, and does not appear to be backing off its support. Yes, there are micro-transactions, but it is to buy sticker packs which can unlock additional multiplayer characters and customization items, which can be unlocked through gameplay already.

This is a great deal for PlayStation owners, and appears to be part of Electronic Arts’ efforts to rehabilitate its image. The company is still trying to overcome being voted the worst company in America in back-to-back years by Consumerist readers. While there have still been missteps like the buggy release of Battlefield 4, the company has taken many other steps to try and earn the approval of consumers.

Remember that these free game downloads are only available via the PlayStation Store through Sunday, December 7. Once the PlayStation Experience ends, so does this offer from Electronic Arts.
