Major ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Spoiler Given Away In Article Title: Jezebel Readers Lose It

Sons of Anarchy spoilers are getting harder and harder to avoid if you’re not like one of the Stone Age people who still watches a series via cable as it airs.

A large number of people these days prefer streaming, so they do their best to avoid spoilers of any kind until they can watch at their convenience. But Jezebel’s Hillary Crosley doesn’t think these people deserve a spoiler-free experience.

In fact, she cares so little about your viewing preferences that she dropped the spoiler right in the title of her article after the last episode.

Now, I’m going to warn you right now not to read any further because I am going to spill the beans on the Sons of Anarchy spoiler that she revealed. I have to for the purpose of the article.

Therefore, take this as your warning — a jumping off point in case you’ve still got some SOA to Netflix.

I’ll even put another sentence right here to give you more time to avoid seeing it.

Okay.

Now that everyone who doesn’t want to know is gone, we can continue.

Crosley entitles her article, “Gemma, Sons Of Anarchy’s Best Worst Character, Dies Like A G.” Worse yet, she published the article on the same night that the show aired.

Spoiler etiquette, as one commenter pointed out, dictates that you wait at least 24 hours before spilling plot details in the article headline. Crosley even violated her own contributor guidelines.

Needless to say, Sons of Anarchy fans were livid, and they’re probably not the types you want to enrage.

Tons of F-bombs followed. Here were just a few of the cleaner criticisms.

“I’m about to sit down and watch this episode. It aired LAST NIGHT. Even the most liberal of spoiler guides says to wait 24 hours. I didn’t read the article, but the title itself, which is not something I can avoid on Jezebel (unlike not choosing to read the article), just told a major major plot point… Yes, I was expecting Gemma to end this way but seriously. You had to put it in the title?

“Now this seems almost intentionally mean. People work nights. I don’t even watch the show, but if there was a headline that spoiled a Breaking Bad death when it was airing I would probably never read the blog again.

“Not everyone has the privilege of cable and the ability to watch a show as it airs live. I’m sorry I’m too poor to afford cable, so I have to wait 24 hours to stream a show. I hate to be one of those OMG!PRIVILEGE people, but this was really s****y.”

To these and other comments, Crosley responded with a simple, “Yup. CATCH THE F*** UP.”

What do you think about this major Sons of Anarchy spoiler being revealed in the headline, and how long should a media outlet wait before it incorporates plot-specific details into headlines in our age of streaming? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
