‘Scrolls’ Release Date December 11 On PC, Mac, And Android

Mojang, the developer behind Minecraft, will be launching their second game, Scrolls, with a release date of December 11 for the Windows PC, Mac and Android platform, with an iPad version coming down the pipeline. The game is a collectible card game meshed with board game mechanic similar to Blizzard’s Hearthstone.

Scrolls will release at $5 for all three platforms with the game available to all who participated in the alpha or beta versions of the game. If you want to give Scrolls a test run before parting with your hard earned cash, a demo version of the game is currently available on Scoll’s website, and can be downloaded as long as you have an account.

Scrolls from Mojang is a resource-based card game. Anyone who has ever tried their hand at Dominion or Hearthstone should have a grasp on the basic mechanics. The game is built around “scrolls,” which are used one at a time, once a turn, and are used to progress through the game. While the scrolls are obtainable from within the game, those who want to eschew the grind can purchase scrolls with real money.

However, to make sure the game does not become dominated by those who have disposable income, Mojang is taking steps to further refine the “freemium” game model that other games such as Clash of Clans use as gateways to progress further in the game. Mojang is therefore capping the amount of scrolls the player can purchase.

“This sounds unlikely, but you really don’t have to spend more than the cost of Scrolls ($4.99) to progress,” Mojang writes. “All items are available for a reasonable amount of gold.”

Scrolls will also feature a crafting system at launch day which gives players the ability to merge three identical scrolls. A scroll can be upgraded twice, and while each upgrade changes the aesthetic of the card, the power or stats of the card will remain unchanged.

The release of Scrolls will also be the first release by Mojang after its purchase by Microsoft for over $2 billion dollars, as reported previously by the Inquisitr. The purchase by Microsoft left many PlayStation gamers worried about the future of the beloved Minecraft on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita. Microsoft has made it very clear that Minecraft will be supported across all platforms for the life of the product, but was mum about exclusivity for titles under development such as Scrolls and Cobalt.

As of this writing, no console or gaming handheld version of the game has been announced. The PlayStation Vita seems like a natural platform for the game owing to its touch screen interface and widescreen format. Fans of Mojang will have to wait for word on if Scrolls will make the leap to any other platforms after its December 11 release date.
