Whitney Houston Lifetime Biopic Trailer Released, Set To Air In January Against Family Grievances

The biopic intended as an honorary tribute to the musical icon Whitney Houston, a sensational talent who left this world far too soon, is once again in the works. Lifetime is making another attempt at showcasing the life and incredible talent of the troubled star in the film entitled Whitney.

The trailer for Ms. Houston’s biopic has been released recently by Buzzfeed, and the full film is set to air on January 17. Check out the trailer, courtesy of Buzzfeed.

MTV News indicates that the film will address all aspects of the starlet’s life, including all of her “highs and lows” as well as “Whitney’s battle with drugs and her volatile relationship with Bobby Brown.” The turbulence which Whitney suffered throughout her career was not a secret to the public, yet the film will explore and reveal aspects of the pop star’s life which were left hidden.

Due to the filmmakers need to delve into the personal details of Whitney’s life, her family has been reluctant to allow for the biopic to be produced. Houston’s mother has recently pleaded with Lifetime, saying, “Please let her rest.”

Later, Cissy, Houston’s mother, told Entertainment Tonight, “Lifetime has chosen to go ahead with the movie about Whitney in spite of my family’s objections. No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby [Brown].”

Lifetime is making a bold move by going ahead with this biopic of Houston’s life, not only due to the pleadings of Houston’s mother, but also because they recently took heat for one created about the life of Aaliyah.

As Stereogum reminds us, last month’s biopic “sent Timbaland on an Instagram rampage.” However, many believe that with Angela Bassett directing the show and a talent like Yaya DaCosta starring as Whitney, the film will possibly gain favor and be considered honorary as opposed to cringe-worthy.

Buzzfeed, having released the trailer for the upcoming Lifetime biopic, prepares fans and viewers for a piece of cinema that will remind all about Whitney Houston’s humble beginnings and the troubles which seemed she could not escape from as she found fame and reached superstar status.

“‘Whitney’ [is]a film that chronicles Houston’s life from church choir in Newark, New Jersey, to the heights of global superstardom. But, as her fans have come to know all too well in the wake of her tragic death in February 2012, there was another, darker side to the singer — one that’s front and center in the exclusive trailer.”
