TNA News: TNA Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle Has Chosen To Re-Sign With TNA Wrestling

Former WWE Superstar Kurt Angle was rumored to be going back to the company that made him famous. His contract with TNA Wrestling was up, and he negotiated with both sides according to Kurt himself. However, it is said that, ultimately, Angle has decided to stick with TNA for the time being. Angle spoke with Vince Russo yesterday. On Russo’s podcast, The Swerve, Russo claimed that Angle told him he would be re-signing with TNA.

Russo said…

“Kurt basically tweeted me back today and he said, ‘Vince, it’s still unofficial, but I have no problem telling you or you announcing or you saying on your show that I’m going to go back to work for TNA.”

This is pretty big as Angle has been giving us the indication that he was going back, but he has claimed nothing officially, as of yet. There have been numerous reports claiming that he already signed with TNA, in fact. It has become sort of a running joke among journalists lately, due to how often we hear the story of him yet again re-signing with TNA. However, it seems like this might be the last of it, with open sources like Russo claiming such. Before, it was just backstage rumors.

Angle did say it was unofficial, but it seems highly likely that Angle will be with TNA if what Russo claimed was the truth.

In addition to Russo’s claims, TNA and Discovery included Angle in a promotional piece when TNA officially signed on with Discovery property, Destination America. As you can see below, Angle is clearly promoted with TNA, along with current stars Bobby Roode, Jeff Hardy, and Bobby Lashley.

“Discovery Communications announced today that it has signed a multi-year deal with TNA (Total Nonstop Action) IMPACT WRESTLING to bring the popular league to homes nationwide on Destination America, the only network dedicated to celebrating the people, places and stories of the United States. Destination America officially enters the ring with its first world premiere of IMPACT WRESTLING in January 2015. The series features some of the biggest names in professional wrestling, including Jeff Hardy, Bobby Roode, Kurt Angle, Bobby Lashley and Gail Kim. The partnership includes the U.S. premieres of additional TNA WRESTLING series and specials and provides Discovery Communications with international broadcasting rights in select regions, to be announced at a later date.”

Angle EC3

So, it appears as if Angle will be back with TNA, and the company believes he will be signing any day now. Why include him in promotional material if he was not planning to re-sign?

Kurt Angle claimed that this would be his last run when he spoke about where he would go on Ring Rust Radio. He said that he would sign for a year wherever he planned to go. It appears that his TNA deal will be just that. It will also be part-time where Angle can wrestle but also take on more acting roles.

Angle seemed to stir up some WWE rumors this Fall potentially to help him in his negotiations with TNA. Angle said he would be returning to wrestling in January, which led many to believe he would be appearing at WWE’s Royal Rumble PPV. Angle also claimed he spoke with both Vince McMahon and Triple H. So, many figured it was all but confirmed that he would be back in WWE in 2015.

In the end though, it appears Angle used the WWE as a tool to help him sign a better TNA deal. There is some risk with signing back on with TNA as no one knows how the promotion will do on their new network. We also know that the network’s number one show has a good bit less than one million regular viewers. TNA would be the big fish on the network. Would they be able to draw even close to what they did on Spike, even at their lowest numbers? Time will tell.

Most would claim that TNA has a better shot as succeeding on the network with Angle than without him. That very well could be the truth.
