Christian Bale Denies He Was Offered Role For ‘Batman V Superman’

Christian Bale is finally setting the record straight when it comes to the rumors that he was approached to reprise the role of the Caped Crusader in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Remember all the rumors floating around before Ben Affleck was announced as our new Batman — to much controversy, may we add? Well, none of it was true. There was talk that Warner Bros. was throwing millions at Bale and he was declining to play the role for Batman v Superman.

Well, it was simply not true, according to recent statements made by the actor in an interview with Esquire. He also discussed the possibility of him starring as James Bond.

“No. I’ve never heard of that. Equally untrue about them coming to me for Batman, before Ben Affleck… I think it’s the right decision. People were talking about this obscene amount of money they were saying was thrown at me. No. I didn’t have a single conversation with anybody about ever playing the role again.”

When the studio announced that Batman would face-off with the Man of Steel himself, Henry Cavill, for the first time in movies history, fans immediately chose Christian Bale as their front runner. The Brit had done a very convincing job in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, The Dark Knight, in the most recent adaptation of the comic book.

However, Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder had other ideas as far as who his Batman would be and was looking for a more “mature” version of the Dark Knight. According to statements made by Snyder, his first choice was Affleck, who fits the character to the T. He’s the right age and towers over the quite tall Henry Cavill’s Superman, which is intentional.

As Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment move forward with a new and exciting universe, Bale’s words make more sense and seem credible now that we know what we know about Affleck’s casting, which was strongly opposed by millions of fans of the comic books. We have yet to see if the fears some expressed were founded or just imagined and hopefully they are all proven wrong and Zack Snyder knows exactly what he’s doing.

In the meantime, Christian Bale has set the bar very high with his performance as Batman and Ben Affleck has his work cut out for him. We have yet to see the new superhero in action, as the Batman v Superman production enters its final shooting stage in New Mexico, after a lengthy stop in Detroit and a quick visit to Chicago.
