‘Clash Of Clans’ Developer Supercell Soft Launches New Game In Canada

With the immense popularity of Clash of Clans, a massive multi-player online strategy game, Supercell, the game’s creator, has decided to expand its gaming catalog.

No, it’s not a Clash of Clans spin off.

Supercell, it should be noted, is not a one-hit wonder. The developers have released a number of hit games including Hay Day, a farming simulation game, and Boom Beach, a game of tropical warfare. Though, neither are quite as popular as Clash of Clans.

Now, without so much as a Tweet, Supercell has quietly released a new, addicting game for Canadians.

Behold, Spooky Pop, a colorful match-three puzzle game based on catching ghosts.

Who’s afraid of a ghost?

No game would be complete without a story line, and Spooky Pop definitely has one.

“A curious but well-meaning Professor has opened a portal to the supernatural world in an experiment gone awry! Spookical spectres are crossing over and invading this sleepy town. Now the Professor and his scrappy band of volunteers have embarked on a ghost toasting adventure, and they need YOUR HELP!”

Spooky is described as a puzzle adventure game; think more of Candy Crush Saga by King than Clans. Below is a screen capture of game play.

It’s definitely not ‘Clash of Clans’

Playing is simple enough; players make matches on the bottom of the screen, which charges up your fighters’ abilities. Your fighters then clash against the “spookical spectres” that the professor released.

There are 100 challenging levels at the moment.

Jim Squires and his associates over at Gamezebo are, so far, impressed with the puzzler.

“We’ve only completed a handful of stages in our playthrough so far, and we’re already liking what we see of Spooky Pop’s potential. Set pieces like walls and exploding barrels, enemies with varying abilities, and little touches like having a chance to make multiple matches each turn if you act quickly enough – it all comes together to form something instantly recognizable, but still somehow fresh.”

Unfortunately, Spooky Pop is currently only available in Canada. There is no word yet on how long Supercell will beta test Spooky or if there will be a worldwide release.

Would you want a wider launch of Supercell’s newest game?

If made available worldwide, do you think Spooky Pop will garner the same fan base Clash of Clans has?
