‘Suicide Squad’ Cast Announced, Will Smith Teams Up With Batman’s Greatest Villain


The speculation over the Suicide Squad movie’s characters and cast can be put to rest. Warner Bros. officially announced Tuesday the Hollywood stars who will fill the shoes of some of the DC Comic universes greatest supervillains in the film.

Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Cortney, and Cara Delevigne were all confirmed to appear in Suicide Squad per a press release picked up by Variety, Hollywood Reporter, and other entertainment outlets.

The premise of the film is a team of supervillains are given a chance to redeem themselves by accepting dangerous missions from the government that they likely won’t survive. Think of it as The Dirty Dozen in a superhero setting.

Will Smith has long been rumored to be attached to the project as have the other cast members. What roles they are taking on in the film may surprise you though.

Suicide Squad Cast

“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one,” said Greg Silverman, president, creative development and worldwide production, in the announcement. “David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”

David Ayer is tagged as the writer and director for Suicide Squad with Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are listed producers. Meanwhile, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder is listed as an Executive Producer, along with Deborah Snyder and DC Comics’ Geoff Johns.

There are rumors that Jesse Eisenberg is in talks to appear in the film to reprise his role as Lex Luthor from Batman v Superman. That’s not confirmed, but the though the biggest role yet to be announced is that of Amanda Waller. Actresses reportedly being considered for the head of the Suicide Squad include Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Oprah Winfrey.

Suicide Squad is currently set for an August 5, 2016 release. That’s just a couple of months after the March 25 release of Batman v Superman.
