Maroon 5 And 5SOS To Perform At First Ever People Magazine Awards

People Magazine will be hosting their very first awards ceremony, titled the People Magazine Awards, and they've booked Maroon 5 and the Australian punk rock band 5 Seconds of Summer to perform at the inaugural event. The awards will take place on December 18 and are designed to honor the "cultural forces of the year." While that term might be ambiguous, if they book stars as big as Maroon 5, the evening is sure to be packed with major celebrities.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Maroon 5 will be performing for a two hour special hosted at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and broadcast by NBC. Along with Adam Levine and the guys of Maroon 5, some stars scheduled to appear include Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Hart, Kate Hudson and Michael Keaton.

In the same vein as People Magazine itself, awards will be handed out for sexiest woman of 2014, biggest phenomenon of 2014, most stylish and funniest person and most popular person. Maroon 5's Adam Levine is the right man to perform the inaugural ceremony, considering he was voted the sexiest man alive in 2013. In addition to Maroon 5, some other "talent" will be making appearance, according to the event organizers.

According to People, there will also be one award category that fans will get to vote on: Best People Magazine Cover of the Year. To cast your vote, tweet your choice for best cover with the hashtag #PEOPLEMagazineAwards during the week of the People Magazine Awards. It's too bad Maroon 5 fans can't vote for Adam's sexiest man alive cover, but a live Maroon 5 performance will have to suffice.

Maroon 5 recently released their latest album, titled V, featuring some already-huge Maroon 5 hits like "Maps," which you can listen to here. Maroon 5 has drastically changed their sound for their new album, featuring less funk and more synthpop sounds. If you're curious about Maroon 5's new direction, click here. The Maroon 5 front man also got the chance to perform at the MTV VMA's for the first time this year.

While Maroon 5 might be the biggest name on the bill for the event, the Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer is also making quite a name for themselves. At the very least, they've been making the news a lot lately due to the various mistakes and opinions of the teenage band members.
