Home Depot Layoffs 2009: Jobs Cut, Expo Centers Closing (Full List)

Home Depot has announced a series of cutbacks that will include thousands of layoffs and the closings of all Expo Design Center stores.

Home Depot Layoffs 2009

The Home Depot layoffs will include 7,000 jobs — about 2 percent of the total Home Depot workforce. Those jobs will all be associate positions. About 2,000 will be “non-customer-facing positions” in store support centers. The other 5,000 will come from stores set for closure.

Home Depot Expo Centers Closing

The bulk of the Home Depot store closures come from the company’s plans to completely eliminate its standalone Expo Design Center store line. Home Depot will shut down all of its 34 Expo Design Center stores, along with five YardBIRDS stores, two Design Center stores (apparently not branded as “Expo”), and seven HD Bath stores. Home Depot says the stores have not performed well and “divert focus and resources from the company’s core ‘orange box’ stores.”

Home Depot has also announced plans for salary freezes among all of its officers.
