Resveratrol: the magic ingredient in red wine that makes you live longer

American 60 Minutes featured a story tonight on Resveratrol, a naturally occurring component of red wine that may extend human life.

“If the promise holds true, I think this has the chance to change healthcare,” Dr. Christoph Westphal tells 60 minutes correspondent Morley Safer.

Dr. Westphal says we all may soon be taking a drug that just might beat the clock, a simple pill that could delay the inevitable. “Our goal is to prevent and forestall many of the diseases that strike us as we reach 50, 60, and 70. All with one pill.”

Here’s the Resveratrol clip. The second scientist featured, David Sinclair, Professor of Pathology and Co-Director of the Paul F. Glenn Laboratories for the Biological Mechanisms of Aging at Harvard Medical School, and yes, he’s Australian.

If Resveratrol isn’t available at your local pharmacy in pill form, but there’s always the alternative: drinking a couple of glasses of red wine daily ?
