Billy Joel Obama Smoke: ‘Piano Man’ Denies Barack Obama Offered Him A Smoke At The White House

Did Billy Joel and Obama share a smoke at the White House? Not so fast. According to the New York Daily News, a source revealed that the Piano Man and the Prez shared a smoke on a balcony during a recent visit when Joel was presented with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Someone apparently overheard Joel having a conversation about the event at a bar last week, and he was allegedly talking about how the President asked him to join him for a puff. Since then, however, Joel has denied the story.

“The Obama part of the story is completely untrue. Nothing like that ever happened. I think their ‘spy’ had a few too many cocktails at that bar,” Joel said.

According to Yahoo! News, a source close to Barack Obama also denied the story, calling it “ludicrous.”

“This is ludicrous. When it comes to his promise to kick the smoking habit, the President has been keeping the faith,” said a White House source. Of course, Obama previously admitted to having a cigarette now and again when he took office back in 2009. While he says that he’s cut back, some find that hard to believe. Why, with all the pressure, wouldn’t that cause someone to smoke more? Anyway, that’s neither here nor there. The fact of the matter is, Joel was not asked to smoke with Obama.

Billy Joel and Obama may have not had a smoke together, but someone else tried to get the famed musician to have a cigarette, and Joel confirmed it. Republican Rep. John Boehner offered Billy a cigarette but he politely declined and told him that he had previously quit smoking.

In other Billy Joel news, the entertainer recently opened up about his decision to not release any new music. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Joel hasn’t released an album in over two decades.

“What I do have at this point is a horror of celebrity. I was seeing it begin to happen when I was doing ‘River of Dreams.’ I had gone through this celebrity craziness with Christie (Brinkley, his ex-wife), and the divorce. I felt like there was a proctoscope up my butt. Everybody interrogating, analyzing — everything I wrote was fraught with meanings — and I said: ‘Wait a minute, I don’t want to rip myself open and let everyone see everything. It was no longer comfortable. Enough! I gave you enough!'”
