Toy Store In Dublin Had To Call The Cops Over ‘Frozen’ Elsa Dolls, As Many Simply Couldn’t ‘Let It Go’

Disney’s animated movie Frozen has proven to be a major success in more ways than one. No wonder people were expected to consider miniature doll-versions of Queen Elsa or her sister Anna as prized personal possessions or as treasured holiday season gifts. However, a store in Dublin had to call the local law enforcement officers to disperse a crowd of eager shoppers looking to buy the Queen Elsa dolls.

The mad frenzy over the Elsa doll, primarily meant as a gift during Christmas time, reached new heights yesterday, when Gardaí were called to a toy store in Dublin after a fight broke out between customers desperate to get their hands on one. The incident, which would remind us of the Arnold Schwarzenegger’s holiday comedy Jingle All The Way, happened at the Smyths outlet, in Airside Retail Park, in Swords, Co Dublin.

The scuffle started just after the store opened in the morning, and the Garda Press Office confirmed officers were called to the store at 9.30 a.m. While the police haven’t issued a statement, local witnesses confirmed that the majority of the those involved in the scuffle were parents who either wanted an Elsa doll for their princess or wished to procure the doll to gift others’ kids.

So far, the Gardaí haven’t made any arrests, but has collected CCTV footage and recorded statements from those who were present in the store at the time, reported RT. The urgency to procure the doll in physical retail stores is quite understandable. Though shopping online during the holiday season is quite preferred, the 18-inch doll is being sold online for €80 ($100), nearly twice its normal retail price of around €45 ($55).

Online stores claiming to have the Queen Elsa dolls are promising delivery “right around Christmas.” On the other hand, the majority of retail stores have put up “sold out” signs. Customers are being told that the manufacturers behind the doll have been unable to keep up with demand.

As the holiday season heats up, it is quite likely that there would be more similar incidents like the one that happened in Dublin. However, to minimize such unfortunate incidents, store owners have restored to some old school queuing techniques. Stores are dispensing the 26 doll shipment through a ticketing system, reported Irish Times.

Disney’s Frozen captured and captivated the hearts and minds of millions of girls and their parents worldwide. The movie, with its rather unorthodox story and beautifully twisted ending, has also managed to soar to the top of music charts as well.

Ironically, the lead character, Queen Elsa sings “Let It Go.” But it is exactly what the little girls and their dotting parents couldn’t do.
