Louis Tomlinson Admits Meghan Trainor’s ‘All About That Bass’ Is A ‘Monster’

Louis Tomlinson admits that even One Direction can’t topple Meghan Trainor’s unstoppable hit “All About That Bass” on the charts.

The boy band’s new single, “Steal My Girl,” is definitely a popular tune. Despite having a massive fanbase ready and willing to spend money on the song, the track failed to top the charts. Not surprisingly, Tomlinson and his boys were a little disappointed that their latest endeavor didn’t soar to the top of the mountain.

According to Unreality TV, Louis admitted that “All About That Bass” is pretty stiff competition. While 1D hoped to best the song with “Steal My Girl,” Louis, Harry, Zayn, Liam, and Niall watched helplessly as the song essentially swatted their endeavor away from the top spot. The result: boy band-sized devastation.

“Steal My Girl’ didn’t go to number one, and we were gutted to be honest. There’s tough competition out there [and] ‘All About That Bass’ is just a monster,” Louis Tomlinson explained during a recent interview (via Female First).

While their new song didn’t thoroughly obliterate the never-ending appeal of “Bass,” that doesn’t mean the group thinks their fans aren’t properly supporting their recent efforts. In fact, Louis Tomlinson told OK! Magazine that he’s more than happy with Directioners and their unwavering enthusiasm for their work.

“Everything we do, the fans are so incredibly supportive. Going into an album you think, ‘We’ve had such incredible support over the past three albums, surely this won’t be received on the same level. But they do.”

Cheer up, Louis. Although “Steal My Girl” wasn’t a number one hit, that doesn’t mean the album as a whole is an unmitigated disaster. According to Billboard, the group’s new record, the aptly-titled Four, is expected to rise to the top of the Hot 200 chart in the United States. In this writer’s opinion, that’s not too shabby.

In fact, if the album moves an estimated 420,000 copies, then it will become the second-highest selling record of 2014. Unfortunately, the group simply cannot match the appeal of Taylor Swift’s 1989, which is one of the most popular releases in years.

The Official Charts Company reports that Four is also a major hit in the United Kingdom, moving approximately 142,000 copies during its first week on retail shelves. In fact, Liam Payne claims the band is already thinking about what they want to do for their next album.
