Rejuvenated Mark Sanchez Leads Philadelphia Eagles To Victory

Redemption’s name is Mark Sanchez.

For the second time in three weeks since assuming the starting quarterback job for the Philadelphia Eagles, the much maligned Sanchez lead his team to victory. The Eagles toppled the Tennessee Titans 43-24 to remain atop the NFC East.

Sanchez’s performance was not perfect by any means. Mark went 30 for 43, 307 yards, 1 touchdown, 2 interceptions and a 78.3 quarterback rating. His best throw of the day came in the third quarter as Sanchez delivered a perfectly thrown ball to third-string tight end James Casey. But he also had a few passes he wishes he could take back, including a third quarter pass that sailed over the head of its intended target, tight end Zach Ertz, landing in the waiting hands of Tennessee Titan safety Daimion Stafford.

But as NJ.com points out, “When Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez was given the job three weeks ago after an injury to Nick Foles, the most the team could have hoped for was he didn’t cost them any games. Sanchez has done just that, and was good enough again on Sunday,” despite throwing two interceptions for the second straight week. Overall, Sanchez is silencing critics who thought his career would be over.

And as Rant Sports point out, Sanchez’s former team the New York Jets could use him right about now. “Mark Sanchez was cast out of the Big Apple as a washed-up quarterback for the New York Jets [and] not many people expected Sanchez to get a second chance with another team,” the article states.

“Wouldn’t those Jets fans love to have Sanchez back right about now? While coach Rex Ryan, general manager John Idzik and the entire Jets team struggles through a terrible season, not more than an hour and a half to the southwest Sanchez is undergoing a career renaissance with the Philadelphia Eagles.”

Sanchez was let go at the beginning of the season by the Jets in favor of quarterback Michael Vick. His Jet career was filled with ups and downs that included two straight AFC Championship game appearances, followed by two straight non-playoff seasons. His second-to-last season as quarterback of the Jets was marred by the now infamous “butt fumble” on Thanksgiving night against the New England Patriots when Sanchez fumbled after sliding into his offensive lineman’s rear end.

His final season with the Jets also ended on a negative note when he was sent into the third quarter of a meaningless preseason game. Sanchez injured his shoulder and was soon replaced by hand-picked rookie Geno Smith. In hindsight, that may have been the best thing to happen to Mark and to the Philadelphia Eagles.
