Alfonso Ribeiro Injury Update: Will He Moonwalk Like Michael Jackson For ‘DWTS’ Final?

Alfonso Ribeiro’s huge fan base breathed a sigh of relief when he managed to dance through the pain during last week’s episode of Dancing with the Stars, but now they’re probably wondering how his injured back has been holding up since then.

Luckily, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star didn’t aggravate his injury too much. Alfonso recently shared an Instagram message about his back, and it was accompanied by a photo that shows the actor practicing hard for one of his two final performances this week.

“Love this shot by @thecyberathlete of my tap dance for Monday night. My back is getting better. Thank god. @dancingabc”

Alfonso Ribeiro Tap Dance

Alfonso Ribeiro’s tap routine could give him a slight edge over his competition for the DWTS final. As the Inquisitr previously reported, the creator of The Carlton played the “Tap Dance Kid” on Broadway when he was 13 years old. His past dance experience caused a minor controversy at the beginning of the season because some Dancing with the Stars fans believed that it gave him an unfair advantage. However, Ribeiro contends that he only took a few dance classes when he was younger, and people are incorrect when they label him a professional dancer.

According to Wetpaint, Alfonso Ribeiro is likely practicing tap dance for this week’s freestyle routine on Dancing with the Stars. The remaining four celebrity contestants and their pro partners will be able to pull out all the stops for their freestyle, and this includes “special effects, additional dancers and unexpected surprises.”

Judging from one of Witney Carson’s Instagram photos, it looks like she and Alfonso have enlisted the help of DWTS troupe members Henry Byalikov, Sasha Farber, Jenna Johnson, and Lindsay Arnold. She also listed cut pro dancers Keo Motsepe and Emma Slater as part of Team Witfonso.

“Had these talented peeps in our rehearsal today for Mondays freestyle! We ?? you all @henrybyalikov@dance10jenna @lindsarnold @emmaslaterdance@keo_motsepe @sashafarber1 #TeamWitfonso #DWTS@dancingabc”

Alfonso Ribeiro Freestyle DWTS

Because Alfonso Ribeiro is revisiting his Broadway days by incorporating tap dance into his freestyle routine, perhaps he’ll also pay homage to another huge job he scored as a kid: his Pepsi commercial with Michael Jackson.

Alfonso already used the Carlton to wow the Dancing with the Stars crowd, but he hasn’t moonwalked yet. According to the Huffington Post, some Michael Jackson fans credit tap dancer Bill Bailey for creating the moonwalk, so it would make sense for Ribeiro to incorporate the move into his tap dance routine. Ribeiro also did the moonwalk during an appearance on Silver Spoons.

According to the New York Daily News, one of Alfonso Ribeiro’s Twitter followers asked the actor if he’s planning on performing a Michael Jackson tribute complete with a moonwalk. Ribeiro responded by tweeting that it’s something he and Witney want to do on the show, and this week is their last chance to pull it off. In addition to their freestyle routine, they’ll also perform one of their previous dances. The DWTS judges got to pick a routine that they want to see a second time.
