Gisele Bundchen Named Best Green Celebrity

Gisele Bundchen was named the Best Green Celebrity this year at the International Green Awards. Bundchen, who models for labels like Dolce & Gabbana, Victoria’s Secret, and Versace, is also involved in numerous environmental campaigns.

Sir Paul McCartney and Miguel Bose were also nominated for the Best Green Celebrity Award.

Bundchen said:

“I am blessed to have grown up in a family that embraced the importance of nature and community coexisting in harmony. My career in the public eye has given me the opportunity to raise awareness about important socio-environmental causes in hopes of promoting a more conscious relationship with our environment.”

Gisele Bundchen is the Goodwill Environmental Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program UNEP.

During this year’s World Environment Day, the supermodel challenged actor Don Cheadle to see who could get more people to take action and plant a new forest. Bundchen won. Her legacy forest will be planted in Brazil this fall. According to a press release, Bunchen’s challenge tripled the activity on World Environment Day.

Bundchen also launched a Clean Water Project, called Pojeto Agua Limpa, with her family in 2008 in her hometown of Horizontina. The model has also been using her flip-flop line to call attention to environmental causes and raise funds to sponsor environmental projects.
