The 101 Uses for my Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress book idea was formed after Kevin Cotter’s wife of 12 years left him in 2009. She took everything but the dress, and when Cotter asked her what she wanted him to do with it, she said, “do what the f**k” he wanted. So he did.
Kevin Cotter spent four years coming up with very clever things to do with his ex-wife’s dress, more than 101 possible things actually, but just the top poses made it into his book. The 100 Uses for my Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress book photos include turning the formal white gown into a dog toy, a boat sail, a jump rope, and a creative footrest.
Here’s an excerpt from My Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress website.
“My wife of 12 years packed up her belongings in 2009 and moved out of our home. After her car was loaded I couldn’t help but notice that a single item remained in her section of our closet, her wedding dress.”
“You forgot something” I told her.
She replied “And what’s that?”
“Your wedding dress,” I said.
“Yeah, I am not taking that,” was her response.
Kevin Cotter goes on to say this about the 101 Uses for my Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress book idea.
“After my brother, sister-in-law, and parents made some offbeat suggestions for what I should do with the dress at dinner one night I decided to see exactly what it was capable of. We made a list and started putting the dress to work. I eventually decided to share my pictures on a blog and with the help of suggestions from visitors here I have used my ex-wife’s wedding dress in over 120 different ways. Approximately 80 of them were featured on this site and the book I wrote, ‘101 Uses For My Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress,’ contains 40 new applications. This dress is unbelievable and probably is capable of carrying out many more applications. My marriage didn’t last forever but this dress just might.”
Kevin Cotter’s ex-wife was also the mother of his two children. After she left him and left the wedding dress, he decided using the formal gown in creative and funny way would be good divorce therapy. The dress was once used as a part of a zombie bride Halloween costume and appears to have worked out great as a dog leash and a Christmas tree skirt. Cotter’s ex-wife is not pleased with the 101 Uses for my Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress project.
“My wife hates it and thinks I am motivated by revenge – which isn’t the case at all,” Kevin Cotter said. “This honestly doesn’t have anything to do with her. I did this for myself because I thought it would be fun and wanted to answer the question – what can be done with a once worn wedding dress?”
The 101 Uses for my Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress book author remarried in 2010 to Ashley Nowe. The couple now lives together with their blended family of five children.
