‘Good Grief!’ A Sneak Peek At ‘Peanuts’ First Trailer Featuring Snoopy [Video]

The “Peanuts” gang can bring out the child in anyone. And director Steve Martino (Ice Age: Continental Drift and Horton Hears A Who!) is no exception. Martino has loved the characters that late Charles M. Schulz’s created since Martino was a young boy, as reported by USA Today.

So, it’s no wonder that Martino and all the filmmakers involved in The Peanuts Movie are focusing “on the timeless quality of 50-plus years of beloved comic strips and TV specials.”

Moviegoers won’t need to expect any twerking, rapping, inappropriate innuendos nor a Charlie Brown “break the internet” moment á la Kim Kardashian, producer Paul Feig promised with a laugh.

“I don’t think his butt’s big enough.”

The Peanuts Movie will feature all of the original beloved characters, without adding anyone new. There’s plenty to love with the likes of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Woodstock, Linus, Lucy and Peppermint Patty. Yahoo! Movies reports that everyone involved is remaining faithful to the original source by having Schulz’s son, Craig Shulz, and grandson, Bryan Shulz, write the screenplay.

USA Today reports this fabulous 3D film is all about following the “little round-headed boy with the indomitable optimism on a quest to get something he’s sure he needs, even though he discovers he’s pretty OK just as he is,” which is not a bad outlook for all of us at any age.

Producer Martino admits that he truly connects with Charlie Brown in the aspect that Charlie has a great way of bouncing back from any road blocks that come his way.

“I wake up every day and it’s like, ‘Today’s the day we’re going to win that game! I’m going to kick that football!’ As you have more life experience, those things have more meaning.”

Although, taking a deeper look into the mind of Charlie Brown’s dog, Snoopy, is a whole new experience. Fans watching The Peanuts Movie will experience what goes on inside that silly dog brain as he imagines all sorts of fun adventures taking him on a wild ride atop his dog house, aka a Sopwith camel plane. Snoopy finds himself soaring into Paris during World War I to fight his nemesis, the Red Baron.

While the animation with the computer generated characters in 3D will be all new, there are so many original traits brought into The Peanuts Movie, that life-long “Peanuts” fans will love every minute. In fact, filmmakers are even using archived recordings of the late Bill Melendez for the famous sounds of Snoopy and Woodstock.

The filmmakers are also keeping true with the features of the Peanuts characters, such as their eyes. Although Martino admits to USA Today that it was sometimes difficult to show expressions with black dots for eyes, they have found ingenious ways to do just that.

“A little tilt of that eye shape can give you worry. A little stretch and raise of that little dot can give you surprise.”

Working on The Peanuts Movie has taken each member of the filmmaking team back to a point in their childhood where they have wonderful memories of these lovable characters. For Martino, it was always about Snoopy’s famous “iconic happy dance.”

“I used to wait for that moment to come on screen.”

However, Feig admits that he couldn’t help but choke up when he began watching the first reel of The Peanuts Movie storyboards as they were set to the classic Vince Guaraldi music that everyone recognizes as the Charlie Brown theme song. Feig describes to USA Today that The Peanuts Movie is like going back in time. To a wonderful place, no doubt.

“You love being back in that world. And you immediately want to grab every kid you know and go, ‘Oh, my God, you’ve got to watch this!'”
