Whoopi Goldberg Defends Bill Cosby, Questions Rape Allegations [Video]

Whoopi Goldberg came to Bill Cosby’s defense while the ladies on The View spoke about the rape accusations that the sitcom star is facing. A few days ago, Cosby was asked about the allegations during an interview, and he responded by silently shaking his head “no.”

This all started weeks ago, when comedian Hannibal Buress took to the stage during his standup routine and called Cosby out for being a rapist when discussing his smug nature.

“He gets on TV, ‘Pull your pants up black people, I was on TV in the 80s! I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom!’ Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches.”

Since then, the allegations have resurfaced, creating a headache for the comedian.

As part of the hot topics discussion on The View, Goldberg took a stand and asked why the alleged victim, Barbara Bowman, at 17-years-old, never asked for a rape kit. Goldberg expressed skepticism over all of the rape allegations.

“No one has met these other women as of yet. Quite honesty, you know, look, I’m sorry, having been on both sides of this where people allege that you do something, it doesn’t matter now. The cat is out of the bag, people have it in their heads. I have a lot of questions for the lady.”

She also noted that once one person says something, then others feel like they need to come forward in a “me too!” fashion.

Bowman stopped by Good Morning America to discuss the ordeal. At the time, she was the first of many women to come forward against Bill Cosby.

“I had one glass of wine, and the next thing I knew I was coming to, slumped over the toilet. When I went into the lawyer’s office, he laughed at me. He treated me like I was delusional. ‘Who’s going to believe that? Bill Cosby?'”

After they played the clip, Goldberg responded, “Perhaps the police might have believed it. Or the hospital. Don’t you do a kit when you say someone has raped you?”

Although Whoopi Goldberg wants Bowman to come on the show, one thing is for certain: Bill Cosby will not talk about these allegations. His lawyer put out a statement that explains Cosby’s stance.

“Over the last several weeks, decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment. He would like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work.”
