Michelle Obama Booed: White House and NASCAR Downplay Incident [Video]

Was Michelle Obama booed today at a NASCAR race? First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden acted as grand marshals for the NASCAR season finale today at the Homestead-Miami Speedway to support a charitable campaign for military veterans. But apparently their support wasn’t wanted as NASCAR fans booed when their names were announced.

Here’s the video of Michelle Obama being booed before the NASCAR race.

Did Michele Obama get booed?

USA Today reports that both the White House and NASCAR have both downplayed the incident.

Marcus Jadotte, NASCAR vice president of public affairs, said:

“The NASCAR community and the vast majority of those attending our race Sunday welcomed the first lady and Dr. Jill Biden and the military families in attendance. We are proud to support military families across the country and proud to support the Joining Forces initiative.”

Kristina Schake, communications director for the first lady, said in a statement:

“Mrs. Obama was proud to join NASCAR in recognizing our nation’s veterans and military families to raise awareness of this important issue for all Americans.”

The Associated Press reports that Michele Obama received a standing ovation earlier in the day at a pre-race meeting when she praised NASCAR for being “amazing in terms of its support, not just today but every day, for military families.”

Do you think the booing incident is being blown out of proportion? Do you think NASCAR fans were being disrespectful toward the First Lady?
