Six-Year-Old Ayan Qureshi Is World’s Youngest Computer Specialist

If you feel bad for not being able to get that printer to work, then prepare to feel much worse. This innocent-looking kid, Ayan Qureshi, is the world’s youngest computer specialist at six-years-old.

Qureshi became a Microsoft Certified Professional after passing their certifying exam when he was just five-years-old. Now six, Ayan has already set up a home computer network for himself, where he spends two hours a day learning about operating systems and programs.

In an interview with BBC, Ayan revealed his experiences with taking Microsoft’s exam, a certifying test designed for adults planning to enter the tech industry. According to him, the test was difficult but enjoyable. His father, Asim, says explaining the language to his son was the most difficult part of the test.

“There were multiple choice questions, drag and drop questions, hotspot questions and scenario-based questions. The hardest challenge was explaining the language of the test to a five-year-old. But he seemed to pick it up and has a very good memory.”

Ayan is the son of Asim, an IT consultant, who introduced him to computers when he was just three-years-old. According to Mr. Qureshi, he would let Ayan play with old computers so he can tinker and learn about motherboards and hard drives.

“I found whatever I was telling him, the next day he’d remember everything I said, so I started to feed him more information. Too much computing at this age can cause a negative effect, but in Ayan’s case he has cached this opportunity.”

When he went to take the exam, Asim said the proctors were concerned that he might be too young to take the test. Thankfully, he was able to pass the exams, making him a Microsoft-certified computer specialist.

Ayan’s mother, Mamoona, says she is very proud of her son.

“I’m very happy and very proud, I don’t want to see him set a world record every day. But I want him to do his best whatever he does in his life.”

Ayan’s family moved to the U.K. from Pakistan in 2009. Ayan says he dreams of starting his own tech company in the United Kingdom, similar to the giant Silicon Valley companies in the United States. Now that’s certainly an achievable goal given what he has achieved so far.

Microsoft Certifications are given to professionals who are interested in entering IT-related industries. For more information on taking the examination, here is a link to the mechanics of being a Microsoft Certified Professional.
