Tim Tebow NFL Comeback: Some New York Jets Fans Longing For Tebow’s Return

Tim Tebow has been out of the NFL for nearly two full seasons now, but some fans of the New York Jets are hopeful that the team could give the enigmatic quarterback one more chance.

Tebow took the NFL by storm with the Denver Broncos, using a unique, hard-running style to pound teams into submission during the 2011 season, ultimately leading the Broncos to the playoffs and an unlikely victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round.

But his career fizzled after that. Tebow was traded to the Jets to make room for Peyton Manning, and in New York he rarely made it off the bench. After a year with little playing time, Tebow left the team and tried a comeback attempt with the New England Patriots, but was cut before the season started.

Some Jets fans are now hoping for a re-do. Amid the team’s 2-8 start to the season, many fans have been spotted wearing Tim Tebow jerseys.

While some of them want the former Heisman Trophy winner to get a second chance, others are simply protesting the Jets’ putrid quarterback situation.

“You want to wear this in protest of what the Jets are doing,” one fan, 27-year-old Jeff Smith, told Sports Illustrated. “Because obviously what they are doing now is not working.”

Some of the fans said they bought the Tebow jerseys on deep discount after he was already out of the league, noting that they want the team to know how unhappy they are, but at least a few truly want Tim back on the team. Others have been spotted with signs calling for Tebow to return.

Though he’s kept himself in playing shape on the off chance that an NFL team comes calling, Tim Tebow is more than likely done in the NFL. But he appears to have a bright future in football announcing, with an on-air job with the SEC Network and a new gig on 1010XL’s The Drill morning show every Tuesday.
