‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Patrick Dempsey Reportedly Leaving The Show ‘Very Soon’

Actor Patrick Dempsey is reportedly leaving the hit television series, Grey’s Anatomy.

In a recent interview with the Portland Press Herald, the 48-year-old actor opened up about the future (or lack thereof) with the show – stating that his departure will happen “very soon.”

Even though Patrick Dempsey admits he does not want to give up acting completely when his time with Grey’s Anatomy is over, he did state that he will be taking a break.

“I do want to act (after ‘Grey’s Anatomy’), but I might take a break and go race and travel first. I haven’t found a piece of material I want to do yet. I’m dyslexic, and I don’t have the attention span to read about a lot of these things, but I can download a documentary or a book on tape, and I love that.”

For Patrick Dempsey, racing is definitely more than just a casual hobby. With the Dempsey Racing team, the actor known by Grey’s Anatomy fans as “McDreamy” uses a modified Porsche to compete in races around the world that can last anywhere between 2 and 24 hours.

During the interview with the Portland Press Herald, Patrick went into detail about his passion for racing and the overall experience of racing at a speed of over 185 miles per hour.

“I guess it goes back to my ski racing days in Maine. The inner child, the competitive part of me, is reborn when I race. It gives me a mental focus. I have to be completely present. I like the physical and emotional challenge.”

Fans of Grey Anatomy don’t need to get ready to say their goodbyes to Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) just yet. Keep in mind that the show’s cast is currently under contract through Season 12 and the show is barely halfway through Season 11.

Therefore, chances are that Grey’s Anatomy fans will get to enjoy Patrick Dempsey (along with the rest of the cast) for at least another 1 1/2 seasons.

Do you think that Patrick Dempsey will walk away from the show when his contract runs out? Or, will Dr. Shepherd continue making his rounds on the hit ABC series for many more years to come?
