‘American Horror Story’: Is Elsa Losing Control Of Her Family?

American Horror Story: Freak Show is the fourth installment in the popular television show series. With the season nearly halfway through, a lot is changing at the freak show, and fans seem stumped as to what direction the rest of the season will go.

At the beginning of the season, Twisty the Clown seemed set to be the main antagonist of American Horror Story: Freak Show, but his time on the show was cut short when Edward Mordrake appeared on Halloween to take with him one freak. Although he initially stated that Elsa Mars was the one who would be accompanying him, Mordrake eventually chose Twisty, who ended up having a very interesting back story. As Twisty showed viewers, nothing on American Horror Story: Freak Show is set in stone, and if you try too hard to figure out what is going to happen this season, you may just end up getting frustrated with the story line. With that being said, the most recent episode, “Bullseye,” showed just how much control Elsa is losing over her family.

From the beginning, Elsa has been in control of the entire freak show, bringing new acts on board and disposing of them as she sees fit. Her loss of control in the latest episode is prompted by her decision to remove the starring act of the freak show, the conjoined twins. Dot and Bette brought in large audiences, but Dot’s singing ability outshines Elsa, who thinks she is poised to make it big in the entertainment industry. In order to focus the spotlight back on herself, Elsa takes the twins to the outskirts of town and offers them to Dandy and his mother, who had offered to purchase the girls on an earlier episode.

As can be imagined, the rest of Elsa’s family of freaks (as she calls them) are upset that the twins decided to run off, and some start to question Elsa’s motives. This leads to Elsa celebrating her birthday almost all alone, with only Ethel, the bearded lady, joining her for a slice of cake. Although Elsa tells Ethel she is like a sister to her, Ethel also has her doubts about Elsa’s motives. In fact, as E! Online points out, Ethel flat out threatens Elsa if she finds out that she is the reason the twins are gone.

“Bullseye” seems to set the stage for nearly everyone in the freak show to eventually turn on Elsa. Although she seems to thrive on having control of everything around her, that may soon be out of her hands. The end of the episode showed Jimmy at Dandy’s house, finding out that the twins are indeed there. Now, it is hard to say if he will make it back to the freak show, or if Dandy will make Jimmy his next victim.

While there are plenty of people trying to figure out what will happen on American Horror Story: Freakshow, some fans are already speculating what the plot of the fifth season will center around. So far, some fans are speculating that Ryan Murphy may choose aliens for the next installment, according to the Inquisitr.
