Couple’s Hi-Tech $5,000 Sofa With Bluetooth Catches Fire And Kills Their Dog

A $5,000 state-of-the art sofa, which included bluetooth and a sub-woofer insert, caught fire and killed a British couple’s Jack Russell and Chihuahua cross dog, who was engulfed by the flames caused by the blaze.

The couple, Ross and Kim Marvin, now plan to sue sofa giant company, ScS, whom they claim have left them “with nothing” following the fire.

Mr Marvin, a recruitment consultant, told reporters about the incident.

“If it had happened while we were sleeping we would be dead. I thought the curtains were drawn at first, it was that black. I went round the back to the kitchen because I knew Rolo was inside. I went in through the smoke – you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. I only got as far as the kitchen table before I had to come outside. I nearly passed out and had to lean on a fence to recover. The firemen offered me oxygen, but I gradually recovered.”

After fire fighters dealt with the blaze in an upstairs bedroom of the Marvin’s home in Wigston, they declared 4-year-old Rolo to be dead.

Mrs. Marvin told the press, “We’ve had him (Rolo) since he was a pup. He was a wedding present to ourselves. It’s just devastating, Rolo was like my little baby. We treated him just like a baby. The only consolation is we’re still here. If it had happened at a different time of day, it could have been a different story.”

The Leicester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the cause of the fire was accidental, having started following an electrical fault within the sofa unit.

Even though ScS has stopped the couple’s monthly repayments for the sofa and offered them new furniture, Ross Marvin says the offer doesn’t go far enough, “I’m afraid their offer is not acceptable. We have lost everything in the fire and now we’ve been told the landlord is holding us responsible because it was our sofa that started the fire,” said Mr Marvin.

A spokesperson for ScS said, “We do not know what the cause of the fire was, and a full investigation is required. As such, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
