2014 Veterans Day Holiday Hours: Banks, Post Office, Retail Stores Open?

Veterans Day is observed on November 11 each year, but there is always confusion about what’s open on the federal holiday. While federal offices close down on Tuesday, retail stores and restaurants will be open for business, with many offering discounts and freebies for Veterans and active U.S. Military.

Here’s the low-down on what’s open — and what’s not — on Veterans Day:

Retail stores, including Walmart, Target, liquor stores, grocery stores and most malls will be open for regular business hours on November 11.

Most banks and credit unions will be closed, although TD Bank states that it will be open for regular business hours on Tuesday.

According to the holiday schedule on the United States Postal Service website, there will be no mail delivery and all USPS branches will be closed on Veterans Day. If you need to mail a package, take care of that on Monday or wait until November 12 when the post office opens again.

Federal offices will be closed and many state offices will shut down for Veterans Day as well. Expect to find Social Security offices, the DMV (or RMV), the Department of Vital Records and federal courts closed on Tuesday. States courts may be closed as well.

Most public schools and all libraries will be closed on Tuesday, although it is not mandated by the government. The Veterans Administration states that there is no legal requirement that schools remain closed on Veterans Day, so all states are allowed to make their own policy regarding school closure on November. The stock market will be open on Veterans Day, so go ahead and make that investment on your day off.

The Inquisitr previously reported that many restaurants will be thanking Veterans and active-duty members of the U.S. Military for their service by offering free or discounted meals on November 11. See a list of deals here and pass it on to anyone you know who has a valid military ID and would appreciate a free meal.
