Queen Elizabeth Bravely Attends Remembrance Sunday Memorial Despite Assassination Threat

Queen Elizabeth bravely attended a Remembrance Sunday memorial ceremony despite the fact that a terrorist group’s plans to assassinate her had been foiled just a few days earlier.

The Queen led the United Kingdom in this service to commemorate all of the service men and women who lost their lives in battle. A two-minute silence was held as the monarch laid down her wreath at the Cenotaph on The Mall in central London.

Queen Elizabeth was joined by various other members of the royal family for the event. She was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, Prince William, and the Duchess of Cambridge, each of whom impeccably showed their respects to the millions of people who have lost their lives in combat.

Prince Harry traveled to Afghanistan, where he stood alongside troops in Kandahar and then laid a wreath with them. Many other events were held up and down the UK and across the world to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One, as well as the 70th year since the D-Day landing.

BBC News have reported that security was visibly tighter in the British capital this year. This came after four men were arrested on Thursday in west London over a reportedly Islamist terrorist plot on British soil, which would have allegedly seen them try to murder the Queen. Speaking to BBC News, General Sir Nicholas Houghton, who is the Chief of the Defence Staff, confirmed that the “proximity of the sense of threat for this weekend” had “intensified” the amount of officers in attendance.

He went on to add that Great Britain had to “just got to keep continuing our normal life” because if citizens didn’t, then it would be sending the wrong message to the terrorists.

“The last thing that we all would want to do is succumb to any sense that there is a terrorist threat there that is at all going to stop the British way of life,” he explained.

After the men were arrested on Thursday, the Sun [via ET Canada] reported that their plan revolved around murdering Queen Elizabeth II. The quartet had planned to stab the 88-year-old when she attended the Royal British Legion Festival at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Sunday.

However, only three days before the event itself, the plan was thwarted when multiple raids were carried out. Despite the threat against her life, the Queen remained as stoic and resolute throughout. She is even believed to have insisted that she would still carry out her royal duties, which have annually seen her lay out the first wreath to “The Glorious Dead.”
