Samsung drops patent lawsuit plans against Apple in Korea

Ever since Apple filed a patent lawsuit to block the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and won, Samsung and Apple have been at each others’ throats, with Samsung trying their best to return the favor by making patent claims in an attempt to block the sale of the iPhone 4S in various regions.

For now, it looks like at least one of those battles will be coming to an end. An anonymous Samsung exec told The Chosunilbo that the company has decided to back down on their lawsuit in Korea.

“We concluded that we should engage in legal battles with Apple only in the global market, but not in order to gain more market share in Korea,” the exec told Chosunilbo.

Even if Samsung sticks with this apparently last-minute decision, this certainly won’t be the end of their feud with Apple. Just two months ago, news broke that Samsung was trying to hit Apple on the same turf that Samsung lost on by filing a patent suit that alleges both the iPhone and iPad 2 violate Samsung’s “wireless technology” patents.
