It is very likely most people have heard about both Star Wars and the new Meghan Trainor super hit “All About That Bass.” Even if you’re not a fan of either (which is hard to believe), this new parody is a must see.
The clever clip adjusts the catchy tune and places it squarely in that galaxy far, far away. The bass turns into “the base.” Clever.
The Star Wars parody, created by Nerdist, is titled “All About That Base: No Rebels,” and it stars Team Unicorn, the group of “geek girls” who were not supposed to exist and love all things intergalactic and unicorns.
The multimedia production team was formed in Los Angeles in 2010, after they hit it big with their viral video “G33K & G4M3R Girls.” Clare Grant, Rileah Vanderbilt, Milynn Sarley, and Michele Boyd have made other brilliant parodies of hit songs, such as Katy Perry’s “California Gurls.”
For the Star Wars parody, Team Unicorn dressed up as Jedis, dancing Stormtroopers, Darth Vader, and other characters made famous by the successful franchise. Basically, they brought the Empire to life with creativity and humor.
If by chance you live under a rock or don’t follow today’s pop big hits, you have missed one of the biggest songs of 2014. So here is a video to introduce you to Trainor’s cheeky top song, which incidentally has over 230 million hits on YouTube.
For die hard Star Wars fans, especially the older ones from the original trilogy, this parody may seem like a travesty, but Team Unicorn does a great job of incorporating all the elements of central aspects of the space saga, which is followed by millions throughout decades. These ladies know what they’re talking about.
As with any parody, you must be open-minded and remember that even though Team Unicorn is made up only of girls, they are self-described geeks and in turn fans of sci-fi. Plus anytime Darth Vader is involved in a music video of any kind, we have to pause.
According to Nerdist, the galactic parody was written by Blake Rodgers and stars Clare Grant, Rileah Vanderbilt, Milynn Sarley, and Alison Haislip, with a cameo from LeeAnna Vamp.
