Welsh Man Eating Face, Eyeball When Found Dies After Stun Gun Shooting

The Welsh man found eating the face and eyeball of a woman Thursday died after police used a stun gun on him. The unnamed victim also died in what is being described as a violent drug-induced act of cannibalism that shook up the small town in Wales. Many compared the heinous face-eating incident by the Welsh man to a popular 1990s thriller.

Police in South Wales were called to the Sirhowy Arms Hotel where they met with frantic staff on the property who pointed them to a Welsh man eating a woman’s face. Using a taser, police shot the man who had already gouged out the victim’s eyeball and had consumed half her face.

Security staff learned that Matthew Williams, 34, had a female companion in his room, which is prohibited per the hotel’s policy. Guards knocked on the room repeatedly, but Williams refused to answer. Next, they made the decision to enter the room using the passkey and discovered the grisly scene of the Welsh man eating the woman’s face.

When police arrived, the 22-year-old victim was already dead. A short time later, after police shot the man with the stun gun, he died. His cause of death has not been released. Jill Edwards, who lives in the area near the hotel, spoke to reporters about the disturbing crime scene.

“This animal was eating this girl to death. He murdered her so police stopped him — good on them. Security said they told him no girls in his room and he didn’t answer, when they opened his door he was eating her face.”

Williams is known by his nickname of Fifi. Just recently, he was released early from a five-year sentence which stemmed from another alleged violent attack on a partner who lives in the area. A spokesperson from the Gwent Police Department made a statement after the deaths from the face-eating incident involving the Welsh suspect, according to Metro.

“We were called at 1:23a.m. after a report that a man was attacking a woman in the Sirhowy Arms Hotel. On arrival, both the male and female were still at the location. A taser was discharged and a man was arrested. The woman was located with injuries and has since been pronounced deceased. While under arrest, the man became unresponsive. Officers and paramedics administered first aid but he has since been pronounced deceased. A murder investigation is underway into the death of the woman.”

Witnesses say the man had just met his female companion and invited her to his hotel room for a cocktail. Sadly, that encounter would end up in two people dying in a violent act of cannibalism.

Another local, Lyn Beasley, weighed in on the terrible chain of events. Beasley points out that the Welsh man was “high on coke” at the time of the attack, which could explain his bizarre behavior.

“He went Hannibal Lecter on the woman, he gouged her eyeball out, ate them and ate half her face.”

The Welsh man suspected in eating the woman’s face and gouging out her eyes is being compared to Silence of the Lambs (1991) character, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, played by Anthony Hopkins. The thriller is about inexperienced FBI agent Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) who is assigned to help track down a missing woman in order to save her from a psychopathic serial killer who delights in skinning his victims and playing a deadly game.
