Jerry Rice Disappointed With Jim Harbaugh And The Way The 49ers Are Playing

San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice is not too fond of the direction in which Jim Harbaugh is taking his former team and he’s thinking this may be the end for the head coach.

During an interview with Bay Area radio station KNBR, via the San Jose Mercury News, Rice criticized the way the Niners played during their loss against the St. Louis Rams. During the final seconds of the game, quarterback Colin Kaepernick fumbled the ball at the two-yard line on a quarterback sneak. The Rams recovered the ball and ended up winning 13-10.

“To see what happened on that final play, and if you can’t depend on your offensive line or your running back to get one yard to win the football game, that’s very disturbing to me.”

Jerry Rice added that the 49ers, who are 4-4 this season and in third place in the NFC West, should be playing better under Jim Harbaugh. The former Stanford coach has taken them to three NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl since he was recruited in 2011.

“With this team, you expected so much more this year, and they’re not playing up to their potential. I don’t know if it can be cured.”

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Jerry Rice mentioned that, with the way things are going, this may be the last season for Jim Harbaugh.

“I think he’s gone.”

But Rice also mentioned that it’s uncertain what Harbaugh will do after this current season is over.

“With Jim Harbaugh, there’s [sic] a lot of questions out there right now. We don’t really know if he wants to come back and be the head coach for the San Francisco 49ers… Maybe that’s starting to wear and tear on the team and it’s taking its toll.”

Talking to Newsday, Jerry Rice said other players have told him they don’t approve of the way Harbaugh coaches.

“I have heard some complaints from some players that he likes to try to coach with the collegiate mentality, and that’s just not going to work in the NFL.”

And while it’s unclear where Harbaugh will end up next year, Rice said there is one thing on which the 49ers coach needs to focus.

“I think the most important thing for Jim Harbaugh to do right now is to turn this around and make it a positive and get that team believing in themselves again.”

Another 49ers legend has a different opinion than Jerry Rice on the future of Jim Harbaugh. A previous report from the Inquisitr states that former quarterback Joe Montana thinks Harbaugh will stick around for another season.

“Whether Jim moves on for another reason, I don’t know. If there is something going on, I would say he wouldn’t be back; that would be my guess. But if there isn’t, I don’t see any reason why. He’s got a great nucleus there. I’m not sure why you would want to leave a team like that, with as much talent that’s on there.”
