President Obama To Spend Veterans Day Watching Basketball Game On Aircraft Carrier


President Barack Obama will spend Veteran Days watching the Michigan State Spartans take on the North Carolina Tar Heels to tip-off the 2011 college basketball season aboard United States Navy aircraft carrier the USS Carl Vinson.

The vessel is currently docked at the Naval Base Coronado in San Diego harbor and the court is featured on the carriers flight deck with seating for 7,000 spectators.

Known as the 2011 Quicken Loans Carrier Classic the event will send all proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Soceity.

The White House released the following statement:

“This Veterans Day, President Obama will honor our nation’s veterans by laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery and then by traveling to San Diego, California, to attend the Carrier Classic on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson … He looks forward to a great game between Michigan State and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.”

The game will be the first of the 2011-2012 college season to be broadcast on ESPN andtTip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET (4:00 p.m. PT).
